History/ Social Studies
Emily Byrne is the daughter of two first-generation college graduates. As a child, she moved often, as both of her parents were in the military. She has lived in nine different states and two different countries. A history major at Boston College, Emily was drawn to the Jesuit value of service and decided to volunteer through Notre Dame’s ACE (Alliance for Catholic Education) program after graduating. She taught as a volunteer for two years in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas at St. Joseph’s K-8 in Edinburg, Texas, and for a third year in Tallaght, Ireland at Cnoc Mhuire Junior School and at St. Patrick’s College in Drumcondra. After discovering a love for teaching, she sought a job with the Cristo Rey Network and helped found Cristo Rey Jesuit High School-Twin Cities. She is in her thirteenth year of teaching at CRJHS and currently teaches 11th U.S. History and AP U.S. History. She and her husband live in St. Paul, MN (and to those unfamiliar with the Twin Cities, let’s be clear that St. Paul is vastly superior to Minneapolis) and loves the challenge of working full time and raising three young children.
