Allyson Even grew up in Rhode Island. Her passion for teaching began early with volunteer work in high school … or if you ask her parents with the stuffed animal school she ran in their basement when she was in elementary school. At the University of Pennsylvania she studied Africana Studies, Latin American & Latinx Studies, and Urban Education. She was an active member of the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project and Community School Student Partnerships. After a year in Guadalajara, Mexico as a Fulbright ETA, Teach for America brought her to Brownsville, TX for four years. She had the opportunity to teach 8th, 9th, and 11th grade social studies including AP Human Geography and helping to found an IB program.
Allyson has been deeply involved in developing AP and IB-for-all curriculum and pedagogy and is interested in equity-approaches that go beyond just access to high-rigor courses. She now lives in the wonderful city of San Antonio, TX where she has taught senior-level IB History at KIPP University Prep and served as Social Studies Department Lead for the past two years.
