Principal Investigator, Science Education And Society (SEAS) Research Program
Dr. Bryan M. Dewsbury is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of Rhode Island. He is the Principal Investigator of the Science Education And Society (SEAS | http://seasprogram.net) research program. His team focuses on the social context of teaching and learning from kindergarten to PhD as well as informal education settings. He conducts faculty development across North America, working with Institutions of Higher Education on transforming their classrooms and campuses toward equity and inclusion. To date, Dr. Dewsbury has worked with over 50 colleges and universities on course, departmental and institutional transformation over the last four years, helping them provide structures for faculty, staff and administration develop structures for the key stakeholders to understand and enact inclusive practices.
Dr. Dewsbury is a Fellow of the John N. Gardner Institute where he assists member institutions with course design particularly as it pertains to inclusion in introductory, gateway courses. He is an advisory board member of the Quantifying Undergraduate Biology Education and Synthesis (QUBES), an organization which focuses on cultivating and supporting faculty mentoring networks and quantitative biology data modules.
Before arriving at URI, Dr. Dewsbury received both his Masters and PhD in Biology from Florida International University in Miami, Florida and his Bachelors in Biology from Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA.
