David Kangas teaches high school English in Wayne, Michigan. David is interested in how people use language to accomplish social and academic life in classrooms and other social settings. He is committed to integrating academic excellence with social justice by practicing a pedagogy where teachers and students research their social interactions in the classroom and local community. He believes teachers need to build on the literacy practices of culturally diverse students in order to bridge the opportunity gap. 

As a teacher consultant with the Eastern Michigan Writing Project, David strives for educational equity by collaboratively researching in communities of practice. He has lead professional development in writing instruction, presented conference sessions on educator advocacy and teaching Climate Change in the classroom. David holds a B.A. in Social Science from Michigan State University, a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan, and a M.A. in Written Communication from Eastern Michigan University.
